Abstract

The Cempako Telok Monument at the Fountain Roundabout is an icon of Palembang City. The monument represents local cultural values integrated with Islamic religious values. Various local iconic objects are present as a unity, such as the petals of the Cempako Telok flower, the calligraphy of the phrase Muhammad Bertangkup, Asmaul Husna, and trays. This research is important for understanding how Malay values and Islam are represented. The study of Tugu Cempako Telok remains informative without analysing the relationship between visual symbols, Malay-Islam aesthetics, and the local cultural identity of Palembang. This study aims to analyse the Tugu Cempako Telok Bundaran Air Mancur Kota Palembang as a representation of the Palembang Malay cultural identity through local symbolic and aesthetic elements. This study uses qualitative research methods with intra-aesthetic and extra-aesthetic analysis methods. The results of this study reveal that the Tugu Cempako Telok was constructed as the identity of the city of Palembang, with the aesthetic values of Palembang Malay based on Islamic values. The symbolic elements of local wisdom are manifested through the shape of the Cempako Telok flower, the calligraphy of the name Muhammad in a circular form, Asmaul Husna, and trays. This research shows that the Tugu Cempako Telok Fountain Roundabout in Palembang City is a visual cultural representation that constructs the identity of Palembang City through the integration of various local wisdom elements with Islamic values
