Retraction, Withdrawal, Correction, Removal, and Replacement Policy

Bio Palembanica is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and preserving the integrity of the scholarly record. The journal follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in handling article retractions, withdrawals, corrections, removals, and replacements.

Article Retraction

An article may be retracted after publication when there is clear evidence that its findings or conclusions are unreliable or when publication ethics have been seriously violated. Circumstances that may warrant retraction include, but are not limited to:

  • Major scientific errors resulting from misconduct (e.g., data fabrication or falsification) or honest mistakes (e.g., miscalculations or experimental errors) that invalidate the study's conclusions.
  • Redundant or duplicate publication without appropriate citation, permission, or editorial justification.
  • Plagiarism, including the unauthorized use of another person's ideas, data, text, figures, or unpublished materials without proper acknowledgment.
  • Serious authorship disputes or unethical authorship practices.
  • Other breaches of publication ethics that compromise the integrity of the scientific record.

When a potential case is identified, the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board will investigate the matter in accordance with the COPE Retraction Guidelines. Authors will be given an opportunity to respond before a final decision is made.

If retraction is deemed necessary:

  • The original article will remain accessible to preserve the scholarly record.
  • A clearly labeled retraction notice explaining the reason for the retraction will be published and permanently linked to the original article.
  • The article PDF and online version will be clearly marked as Retracted.

Authors cannot request retraction solely because they no longer wish the article to remain published.

 Article Withdrawal

Authors are expected to submit manuscripts only when they are ready for editorial evaluation. Withdrawal of a manuscript after submission may waste considerable editorial and peer-review resources.

Authors wishing to withdraw a manuscript before publication must submit a formal written request explaining the reason for withdrawal. Requests should be signed by the corresponding author and, where applicable, by all co-authors.

Once an article has been accepted or published, withdrawal will only be considered under exceptional circumstances and in accordance with this policy.

 Article Correction

Bio Palembanica publishes corrections when errors do not invalidate the overall findings of the article but require clarification or amendment.

Corrections may be issued for:

  • Minor factual or typographical errors affecting interpretation.
  • Errors in author names, affiliations, or contributor information.
  • Incorrect tables, figures, or supplementary materials.
  • Other mistakes that do not compromise the scientific validity of the article.

Corrections are classified as follows:

Erratum

Issued to correct errors introduced during the editorial or production process by the journal.

 Corrigendum

Issued to correct errors made by the authors after publication.

 Addendum

Published when additional information significantly enhances or clarifies the original article without altering its conclusions.

All correction requests are evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief and, when necessary, the Editorial Board or peer reviewers before publication.

 Article Removal

Removal of a published article is an exceptional measure and will only be undertaken when legally required or when continued public access poses serious legal or ethical concerns.

Examples include:

  • Defamatory or unlawful content.
  • Court orders requiring removal.
  • Serious violations of privacy or confidentiality.
  • Content that presents a substantial risk to public health if relied upon.

In such cases, the article metadata will remain available, while the full text will be replaced by a notice explaining the reason for removal.

 Article Replacement

In rare circumstances where a published article contains significant errors that could pose substantial risks if relied upon, Bio Palembanica may replace the original article with a corrected version.

The replacement process includes:

  • Publication of a replacement notice explaining the reason for the update.
  • Preservation of the publication history.
  • Clear links between the original and replacement versions.
  • Transparent documentation of all revisions.

Editorial Responsibility

All decisions regarding retraction, withdrawal, correction, removal, or replacement are made by the Editor-in-Chief in consultation with the Editorial Board, and when necessary, external experts or the authors' institutions.

Bio Palembanica follows the COPE Core Practices to ensure that every case is handled fairly, transparently, consistently, and in accordance with internationally accepted standards of publication ethics.
